I am a food and portrait photographer based in Washington, DC via Alaska and Boston.
Can I tell you a secret?
I've always hated getting my photograph taken. I never looked like me; I was never happy with what the camera shutter managed capture and what it left behind.
Yet I love photography because of its imperfections, because a good photographer knows how to use the camera to capture the life and personality of her subject, and leave behind the unimportant. The clicking of the shutter can be alienating and uncomfortable, but photography is able to use this flawed tool to convey emotion, spark empathy, and tell a story.
